What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy?

The Linehan Institute at www.behavioraltech.org provides an overview of DBT as follows:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a cognitive behavioral treatment that was originally developed to treat chronically suicidal individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and it is now recognized as the gold standard psychological treatment for this population. In addition, research has shown that it is effective in treating a wide range of other disorders such as substance dependence, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders.

We work through the book by Marsha M. Linehan "DBT Skills Training Handouts and Worksheets" (2nd ed.) available at Amazon:

4 Sets of behavioral skills covered include:
Core Mindfulness - the practice of being fully aware and present in this one moment.
Interpersonal Effectiveness - how to ask for what you want and say no while maintaining self-respect and relationships with others.
Emotion Regulation - how to change emotions that you want to change.
Distress Tolerance - how to tolerate pain in difficult situations, not change it.

Details.

Pre-registration is required. Pre-screening evaluation is $50. (Waived if you are already a client with Hope for Healing Counseling).

Participants must agree to the consent for treatment and other policies.

Group is held on Thursdays from 6:00-7:15pm.

Each week is $50/person. Payment due at the time of service. 

Group follows a 24 week rotation of topics and modules. Calendar available, attend the sessions you chose.

If you sign up for a week and don't cancel 24 hours prior you will be charged a $20 late cancellation fee.

This group is facilitated by Misty Andersen-Pitcher, MC, LPC.

Misty was trained in DBT therapy in 2014 and has been conducting individual and group therapy in DBT for seven years. She is an approved DBT Specialty provider with AZDBHS and maintains ongoing continuing education in DBT.
